Apple Fitness+ is expanding into virtual reality, with support for VR headsets including the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest series starting January 2025.
The integration allows users to experience immersive workouts with real-time metrics overlaid in their virtual environment. Apple announced the update today, positioning Fitness+ as a leader in next-generation digital fitness.
The VR integration will enable users to participate in guided workouts—such as cycling, yoga, and high-intensity training—while seeing their heart rate, calories burned, and progress directly in their headset’s display.
Instructors will appear in a dynamic virtual space, adjusting to the user’s movements for a more engaging experience.
Apple confirmed compatibility with Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3, and Quest Pro at launch, with plans to expand to other devices later in the year.
Existing Fitness+ subscribers will gain access to VR workouts at no additional cost, while new users can subscribe for $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually. The update also introduces multiplayer functionality, allowing friends to join the same virtual session and compete on leaderboards.
Apple emphasized user privacy, stating that all health data remains encrypted and stored locally unless shared intentionally.
The move follows growing demand for immersive fitness experiences, with competitors like Peloton and Meta exploring VR-based workouts.
Analysts suggest Apple’s entry could accelerate adoption, leveraging its ecosystem and Fitness+’s existing user base. Early demos show virtual environments ranging from tranquil nature settings to futuristic gyms, designed to reduce workout monotony.
Apple Fitness+ VR workouts will debut with 15 dedicated sessions at launch, expanding monthly. The company also plans to integrate Apple Watch data more deeply, allowing real-time form corrections via motion tracking.
The update will be available in all 21 countries where Fitness+ is currently offered.
